Tiny-UPS 3.0 – New & Improved - A tiny-sized UPS for USB devices
Tiny-UPS is a compact uninterruptible power supply for 5V USB devices, powered by external Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries (not included). Battery size/capacity is flexible—charge and runtime depend on the battery used.
It’s ideal for IoT devices and SBCs like Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ODriod™, and Android boards. Mounting holes fit Raspberry Pi Zero and Adafruit™ ADS1115/1015 boards.
Monitoring & Indicators
- Built-in ADC with I2C for monitoring Vin, Vout, battery voltage, and temperature.
- GPIO pin signals power status (high = power on, low = power fail).
- Green LED = Power on, Yellow LED = Charging (off when full), Blue LED = UPS active.
- Sample Python code available for monitoring and shutdown.
Power Operation
- Input: micro-USB, 5V/3A recommended.
- Output: seamless switch to battery at 5V when power fails.
- A parallel power path allows simultaneous battery charging and output.
Features
• Tiny size – 3.5cm x 2.8cm (1.38” x 1.1”)
• Use case: IoT devices, Arduino, Beagle, Raspberry Pi, ODroid, others.
• Output: Micro-USB or solder, UPS 5V, 3A max via micro-USB.
• Input: Micro-USB or solder, 5V, 3A power adapter.
• UPS Battery: Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries.
• Charging: max 2A, CCCV.
• Monitoring: GPIO for Power failure. I2C for monitoring Vin, Vout, Battery V, Temp. 3.3V pull up for I2C provided externally.
• LED’s: LED indicators for battery charging, UPS, Power.
• Safety: All electronics are turned off when battery V drops below 2.6V. Battery charges immediately when power is restored. Temperature-controlled charging. Drained battery trickle charge. Overcurrent protection.
• Low Drain: Charged battery remains charged for a long time.
• ESD/Surge: Input protected by TI Surge Protection Device. Protection for power surges and ESD.
Compatibility
- Works with Pi Zero and full-size models (A+, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, Pi 4, and other 40-pin HAT-compatible boards)
- Pi Zero: 40-pin header required for full monitoring & shutdown via Python; micro-USB cable option for UPS only
- Mounting holes align with Pi Zero and Pi boards (two standoffs on full-size models)
- Not compatible with older 26-pin Raspberry Pi boards
