A single fan unit can support two Compute Blades, and you can install up to 10 STA or SMART fan units in a 19-inch 1U rack mount, serving a total of 20 Compute Blades.
The STA version provides basic features to cool two compute blades and control the fan speed via PWM. This version of the fan unit is a simplified variant of the smart fan unit, featuring the same form factor and fan, but without the capability to execute or be controlled by custom applications. The fan speed/airflow control operates via PWM, which is provided and controlled by the Compute Blade.
